On 8 – 19 May 2018, in the scope of Roohanee Jangyroo program Kazakhstan opens its own National Pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival to present Kazakh film industry’s products. All the events in the Pavilion will commemorate the 20th anniversary of Astana and Kazakh Arts University.
The Pavilion shall be the space to present Eurasia Film Festival and its Directorate, Eurasian Projects Market, announce the Festival jury panel and programs and film market, hold meetings with international distributors of Kazakh films, and have press briefings with Kazakh filmmakers’ delegation.
This year, Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard program selected Adilkhan Yerjanov’s The Gentle Indifference of the World, Cinefondation selected End of Season by Jannat Alshanova, Olga Korotko’s Bad Bad Winter is screened in the ACID program, and shorts Hide and Seek by Venera Kairjanova and Assan by Berik Jakhanov were selected for Short Film Corner in the scope of Marche du film.
It is the 2nd year in a row that Kazakhstan Pavilion is being opened at Cote d’Azure, and Kazakhstan is represented by a large number of films made by young and talented directors.
Kazakh delegation includes government officials, creative intellectuals, prominent Kazakh film and television figures, students of Film and TV Department of Kazakh National Arts University.
On 9 May 2018, an official reception Kazakh Evening in Cannes will be held in Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes. In the event’s program are performances of Kazakhstan People’s Artist Aiman Mussakhodjayeva, famous Kazakh singer Dimash Kudaiberghen, renowned State Chamber Orchestra Academy of Soloists.
Kazakhstan National Pavilion will be open throughout the Cannes Film Festival’s duration.
Kazakhstan National Pavilion was launched with the support of Kazakh Ministry Culture and Sports and Kazakh Embassy in France.
