The III Eurasia International Film Festival took place on September 25-October 1, 2006, in Almaty. At the same year the Eurasia IFF was accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF). That year along with the main competition, a competition of Central Asian Cinema took place where Kozhakuly Narliyev, director of Turkmenistan, was the Jury President. The III Eurasia IFF included retrospectives of films by a German classic Volker Schlondorff and Iranian director Mohsen Makhmalbaf and his family members – Samira, Hana and Mazieh Meshkini as well as the retrospective of Kazakh film director Abdula Karsakbayev to honor his 90th birthday anniversary.
Festival’s Grand Prix – “Eden”, Germany/Switzerland, directed by Michael Hoffman;
Best Director Award – “Little Red Flowers”, China, directed by Zhang Yuan;
Special Jury Prize – “Kek”, Kazakhstan, directed by Damir Manabi;
Best Actress – Ladan Mostofi, “Goodbye, Life”, Iran;
Best Actor – Masato Ibu, “Sway”, Japan.
Central Asian Competition:
Grand Prix for the Best Film – “The Trackman’s notes”, Kazakhstan, directed by Zhanarbek Zhetiruov;
Best Director Award – “The Road Under Sky”, Uzbekistan, directed by Kamara Kamalova;
Best Actress – Fatima Gulyamova, “Ovora”, Tajikistan;
Best Actor – Tulegen Kuanshev, “Steppe Express”, Kazakhstan .
