Anna Melikyan

Anna Melikyan was born on 8 February, 1976 in Baku, lived Yerevan, and moved to Moscow at age 17.

In 1990’s Anna Melikyan worked as a director on TV and script writer for TV-shows.

In 1998 she directed the opening and closing ceremonies of the Moscow International Film Festival.

In 2002 she graduated from the All-Russian State University of Cinematography film school (classes of Sergei Solovyov and Valery Rubinchik).

In 1999 she made her term thesis film “Poleteli”, in which the main role was played by Nelly Uvarova.

Her first feature film was “Mars”, it was premiered in 2004 at the Berlin International Film Festival. Her second feature film “Mermaid” won World Cinema Directing Award Dramatic at the Sundance Film Festival, FIPRESCI Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival and was selected as Russia’s official submission for the Academy Awards in 2008.

Her film “Star” in 2014 won Anna Best Director Award at the Kinotavr Film Festival.

In 2015 “About Love” won the Main Prize and the Prize of Film Distributors Jury at the Kinotavr Film Festival.

Anna founded the “Magnum” film company which produces films and TV-series as well as searches for and produces new talents
